Privacy & Data Protection

How we collect, use and protect your information.

Last updated June 2026

1. Who we are

Fire Safety Nearby ("we", "us", "our") operates firesafetynearby.co.uk. We are the data controller for personal information you provide via this site. You can contact us at firesafetynearby@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

  • Enquiry data: name, email, phone, postcode, property details, services requested, project context.
  • Contractor data: company details, contacts, services, accreditations, coverage areas.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser, device, pages viewed (via essential and analytics cookies — see Cookie Policy).

3. Lawful basis

We process personal data on the following bases under UK GDPR:

  • Contract — to deliver the matching service you requested.
  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure and improve the platform.
  • Consent — for non-essential cookies and marketing communications.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.

4. How we use your data

  • To match enquiries to suitable specialists.
  • To contact you about your enquiry or your contractor account.
  • To send transactional emails (confirmations, status updates, invitations).
  • To maintain platform security and prevent fraud.

5. Sharing

Customer contact details are only shared with a matched specialist once they confirm interest in your project. We use trusted processors (hosting, email delivery, analytics) under data processing agreements. We do not sell personal data.

6. Retention

We retain enquiry data for up to 24 months after last activity, contractor account data for the life of the account plus 6 years for tax records. You can request earlier deletion at any time.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object to processing of your data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email firesafetynearby@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, role-based access controls and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure — please use a strong, unique password.

9. International transfers

Data is primarily processed in the UK and EU. Where transfers occur outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g. UK IDTA or Standard Contractual Clauses).

10. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated by email or via a notice on the site.
